The second deadliest terrorist attack in the past thirteen years has already occurred in the year 2015. Was this the recent attack in Paris, France? That would be a great guess based on all of the recent news reports. However, that guess would be an incorrect one.
Over 2000 people were recently rounded up and slaughtered by Islamic militants in the town and surrounding area of Baga. Where else can over 2000 innocent people be slaughtered and it barely even make the news? Of course, we must be talking about the tribal areas of Africa.
This massacre was committed by the infamous Islamic terrorist group known as Boko Haram. These are the same charming individuals who kidnapped the school girls last year and redirected them into sex slavery.
Have we now become so desensitized to terrorism that the murder of 2000 people barely even makes our news? Perhaps these victims were not white enough to deserve our attention? Why do we often treat the deaths of our African neighbors with the same level of concern that we would grant towards the unexpected death of some random barnyard animals?
These victims did not get any catchy slogans of support like “Je Suis Charle”. They did not get any protest marches with millions of people coming out in a show of unity. They hardly even got a mention on our network news broadcasts.
Perhaps the producers of the movie “Hotel Rwanda” can make a sequel about this recent mass killing a few years from now, so that we can once again spend a few hours feeling guilty while reminiscing about our past indifference. I already have a recommended working title for this movie: Je Ne Suis Pas Baga.
Many Americans don’t even know that the attacks by Boko Haram occurred. I don’t think it has anything to do with the victims not being “white enough”. That sounds like the kind of race baiting Al Sharpton would preach. I think it may have something to do with their perceived lack of socio-economic importance to The-Powers-That-Be here in the USA, but I think it has much more to do with much of the main stream media’s intentional avoidance of anything that may put muslims in a tainted light. The term “Islamic Terrorist Group” is becoming less and less politically correct. Everyone is so afraid of offending other people these days, they don’t want to tell the truth. Therefore, main stream media does not want to report on such things at any depth. I personally have heard about this attack, but mainly on conservative talk radio.
Of course, the attacks in Paris are going to be all over the news. It is a high profile city, with heavy use of social media. Baga, not so much. A dozen or so people killed by a small sleeper cell of Islamists in a large city strikes more (fear?) concern into the hearts of many Americans, as they realize that something like this could happen here in the USA. A large group of marauding Islamists beheading, raping, ultimately killing more than 2000 people, shooting women in labor and burning the town to the ground happening in America, not so much. It just doesn’t hit close to home psychologically for many people so they “feel” it as less important. I don’t think it has to do with how dark the victims’ skin color is. If there was a video that played incessantly on CNN of people fleeing for their lives from the Boko Haram attack, running, bloodied, and tripping over all the piles of dead bodies and body parts lining the streets, then maybe there would be a backlash, a movement to stop these butchers. But alas, to do so would bring to light that these murderers are Islamist, and it is politically incorrect to say that, to the point now that the mainstream media is constantly saying that these groups, including the group known as ISIL (ISLAMIC State in Iraq and the Levant), are not Islamic. I say kill the terrorists, slather them in pig fat and throw them all in an unmarked grave. No 72 virgins for them. Then show THAT on the news, and maybe all those jihadists will think twice about blowing up, raping, murdering, sex slaving all those innocent people. *officially steps off of soap box.
I certainly don’t know if the lack of news coverage in this case was due to skin color… I was simply speculating in an open forum. If you look at this press coverage in relation to the lack of news coverage during the Rwandan genocide then I do think that a certain pattern starts to emerge. Pointing out real racial bias does not make one a “race baiter”. Playing the “race baiter” card is just as intellectually lazy as playing an actual “race” card. Just because the political left is in a perpetual state of falsely accusing people of racism… this does not mean that real racial bias does not exist in this world. If you can’t find it anywhere, then you may have actually become blinded to it. But I agree with you very much about your last point. The American people are a caring group and if the mainstream media had actually focused on this slaughter in Baga then I do believe there would have been a strong public outcry just as what happened with the abduction of those school girls in Africa last year. Get on your soap box anytime! I love a good and healthy debate.
NO ONE has the guts anywhere to do what you propose. It is EXACTLY what they need & deserve. But before they are slathered in the Pig Fat ,make sure they are Sexually humiliated on camera by (Prostitutes?) ,or some such persons that would make them totally Humiliated and uncomfortable for what they have done.
This all needs to be publicly done. It would be very effective and would slow them down very much if they knew this is what awaits them for their Brutality.
We are absolute Fools for what we allow to transpire on this Planet.
